New Delhi, Jan. 4: Digvijay Singh today demanded that the National Investigation Agency probe all terror related incidents as he claimed that BJP-ruled states Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat were sheltering RSS members involved in attacks. The Congress general secretary said the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh was trying to cover up the role of RSS leaders in recent blasts while they found refuge in Gujarat. Singh claimed that the number of terrorist incidents had fallen between 2005 and 2007 because the government had captured the “RSS team which was committing these acts”. He felt that the “investigation into the death of Sunil Joshi, who was the star of this team, should also be done by the NIA as the Madhya Pradesh government would never unearth the truth.” “Joshi was killed after the order from the top,” he said. Asked if he was referring to the RSS leadership, he said, “That is for the NIA to probe. I am not the investigating agency.” “But I know the Madhya Pradesh government hurriedly implicated foot soldiers as the Rajasthan ATS (anti-terrorism squad) was on the verge of uncovering the plot. I, as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, had known these people were involved in terror activities but they took refuge in Gujarat. If the NIA did a thorough probe, truth will come out.” He also pointed out that the charges filed by the Rajasthan ATS said Swami Aseemanand (alias Jatin Chatterjee), a suspect in five attacks including the Samjhauta Express blast, finalised the terror plot during the Shabari Kumbh in Shabari dham in Gujarat’s Dang district in 2006. He said top RSS leaders, including K. Sudarshan and Mohan Bhagwat, were present there then. But Singh refused to explicitly accuse the RSS leadership of being aware of the plot. “I am only saying that the chargesheet mentions these leaders also attended the Shabari Kumbh.” The Congress leader also demanded a probe into whether Shabari dham, controlled by an RSS outfit headed by Aseemanand (who is also a suspect in the Mecca Masjid, Ajmer, Malegaon blasts and is in jail), encroached on forest land. Singh also wanted the probe agency to find out how much of its funds came from the Gujarat government. He also asked the RSS and the BJP “to introspect whether supporting such elements was patriotism”. He recalled how the BJP and the RSS had been demonstrating against the interrogation of RSS leader Indresh Kumar. Singh made the charges while furnishing proof of his conversation with former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare on the day of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. He produced a letter from the BSNL and a record of his telephone calls, which showed a call from a Mumbai ATS landline number (02223087336) at 5.44pm on November 26, 2008. The call lasted for 381 seconds. Singh said: “All those who called him a liar should either apologise or express regret.” The Congress leader asserted, however, that Pakistani terrorists had killed Karkare and the RSS had no role in 26/11. |
