Earlier, Singh had released the same book authored by Aziz Burney, Editor in Chief of Urdu Sahara newspaper, in Delhi on 6th of December. Speaking at that release function, he had stated that Karkare had called him 2 hours before the 26/11 attack and had said that his life was 'ruined by constant threats' by the members who opposed the ATS investigation into the 2008 Malegaon blast, which had almost exposed the Hindu extremists.
Few days later, his repeated comments were followed by national outrage; after which he even diluted his comments. While addressing the gathering at the Islam Gymkhana in Mumbai, where Burney's book was released locally today, Singh once again tried to portray the danger posed to the country by Hindu extremist groups. “I said that as far as the 26/11 incident is concerned, there must be no suspicion that it was done by Pakistani terrorists. But this is for sure that there was pressure on Hemant Karkareji,” said Singh.
Digvijay asserted that the ideology that was pressurising Karkare was the same one which was responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and for driving a wedge between Hindus and Muslims. Singh pointed out that those from the Hindu Right, whether it was the Shiv Sena, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi or BJP leaders L K Advani and Rajnath Singh, had “questioned Shri Hemant Karkare's integrity, loyalty and patriotism towards the nation and pressure was applied on him”.
“Hemanth Karkare had come forth as a God for all the Muslims of the country, who were constantly being defamed for all the wrong reasons,” said Singh.
People who were present in the audience also included local Congress MLA Kripashanker Singh, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt and former Maharashtra IGP S M Mushrif who authored the book “Who Killed Karkare?” in 2009, which too alleged a local conspiracy in the ATS chief's death.
Singh also alleged that Sunil Joshi, the murdered RSS activist and Ajmer blast accused was killed as he could expose many others in his group. Singh further accused the Hindu groups and the BJP ruled states of emerging as a citadel of majority terrorism. He asserted that Sunil Joshi could reveal the names of the people who were behind the blast.
He alleged that the majority terrorism was spreading all over Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka also. Asked by reporters later if he was accusing BJP-ruled states of shielding Hindu extremists, Singh said when one Marathe from Madhya Pradesh, who was accused of killing one RR Khan in Ratlam, was caught, he said he had stayed at BJP and RSS offices after the murder.
Singh also alleged that the Gujarat Government was supporting Swami Aseemanand, who has been arrested in connection with the Ajmer and Mecca Masjid blast. While quoting the statement of Rajya Sabha MP Maulana Mahmood Madani, he said that he completely agreed that Muslims were not getting justice in the country. Singh also said that banning the RSS would have little impact as they would float other organisations; therefore it was necessary to “crush the ideology”. He charged that those owing allegiance to this ideology were present in the bureaucracy, political parties, police and even in the army.

Banning RSS won't work, crushing the ideology is necessary: Digvijay Singh
Mumbai: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh released a book 26/11 RSS ki Saazish in Mumbai even after being strongly criticised for his comments linking the killing of Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 terror attacks to the alleged threats Karkare had received from Hindu extremists. With this, he allegedly plans to initiate an attack on radical Hindu groups, i.e. what he calls 'majority terrorism'.
