'It's counter-Islamic terrorism, not Hindu terror'
Swayamsevak Sangh, issued a statement condemning the attempt to link the arrests of suspects in the bomb blasts in Ajmer and Hyderabad by the Special Investigation Team with his organisation.
Joshi's statement claimed that the RSS only believed in the Constitutional path. It said the RSS would not support or protect anyone indulging in violent activities. The crucial fact that emerged from the short statement was that the accused have been removed from any posts of responsibility in the RSS.
Joshi also demanded that accused be investigated, but innocent people should not be harassed. The RSS is obviously worried. The organisation supported by millions and hated by millions has never been above controversy. But the arrests and investigation of some RSS office-bearers and activists is a matter too serious to be forgotten after a media statement.
After all, Devender Gupta, who was arrested by the Rajasthan police in April in connection with the 2007 Ajmer blasts, is now also an accused in the Mecca Masjid blasts in Hyderabad that same year.
Gupta was an RSS office-bearer from Bihar. According to the police he is linked to Sunil Joshi, an RSS pracharak in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, who was murdered in December 2007.
Sunil Joshi was connected to Sadhvi Pragya Singh and Lieutenant Colonel Srikant Purohit, who were arrested in the Malegaon blasts case.
Sunil Joshi, who had been sacked from the RSS for his radical views, was associated with Abhinav Bharat, an outfit accused of inspiring the radical group who have resorted to terrorism.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is on the look out for Sandeep Dange and Ramachandra Kalasangar, who are allegedly part of the terrorist group.
Ram Madhav, the RSS's media savvy and sober face and member of its national executive, vehemently denies the organisation's direct or indirect involvement with these cases of terrorism and claims that his organisation is not infected by such radical elements.
He spoke to Rediff.com's Sheela Bhatt.
Terrorism, Hindus not related: RSS

Nagpur: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has taken strong exception to the use of the term 'Saffron or Hindu terror' and said terrorism and Hindus cannot be related to each other.
Addressing the annual Dussehra rally at Reshim Bagh ground here, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said, "Terrorism and Hindus are the oxymoron and can never be related to each other. This was an attempt to weaken strength of the Hindus in India and at the same time to appease the Muslims."
A handful of incidents involving Hindus were reported and for that to blame the entire Hindu community was improper and unjust, Bhagwat said.
"Hindus are generally not involved in terrorism," he said.
Noted musician, Hridaynath Mangeshkar was the chief guest of the rally.
'Don't equate RSS with terror’

DATABANK
LUCKNOW: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday sought to shield the sangh from being projected as a terror outfit by virtually disowning those named in the Ajmer blast case.
"There is a deliberate design to implicate RSS functionaries. Certain Hindu names did crop up during investigation into the Ajmer bomb blast but not every Hindu is a member of the RSS,'' he said and added that there was also a possibility that the alleged accused may have worked with the RSS at some point of time and were shown the door later.
Slamming the Centre for unleashing a campaign to project RSS as a terror outfit, Mohan Bhagwat declared that "the ongoing trial by fire would help sangh emerge stronger and brighter."
Hindu Samaj, saffron and sangh, said the RSS chief, had never been synonymous with terrorism. '' Dragging the parivar's name through the mud, therefore, manifests fears of Delhi rulers, exposes their petty vote-bank politics and their desire to retain power by means fair or foul," he said.
Bhagwat earlier led a rare three-hour dharna at Charbagh in company of senior RSS functionaries and BJP leaders, including the state president Surya Pratap Shahi, MPs Kalraj Mishra, Lalji Tandon and MLAs. Bhagwat said staging a dharna was not a part of RSS culture . He decided to participate in the event only after the executive body advised him to clear the air about the charges being levelled against the outfit.
In an obvious reference to the alleged involvement of RSS leader Indresh Kumar in Ajmer blast, Bhagwat said that Sangh was committed to provide all possible assistance in the investigation process. '' But we will also take the battle to the court and to the public and would ensure that those hatching conspiracy to malign us finally get their due,'' he said.
Sangh-bashing , he claimed, was not new. "RSS was banned in 1948 also,'' he said. '' We faced a similar situation yet again during the days of Emergency."

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh cleary ruled out all allegations made by Congress leaders at latters plenary meet held at New Delhi recently. In crystal clear words, RSS Genereal Secretary Sri Suresh Joshi(Bhaiyyaji) slammed Congress for its attemts to tarnish the image of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sanngh. Bhaiyyaji Joshi lashed out at Congress leader Digvijay Singh for making “irresponsible, baseless and false” statement against RSS. Stung by the focus on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s alleged terror links, at the Congress plenary session that ended here on Monday, the organisation dismissed it as an attempt by the ruling party to divert attention from other issues it was facing.
“The RSS does not believe in violence or terrorism… if anyone is involved, the law must take its course and whoever is involved must be punished,” RSS general secretary Suresh Joshi stated, while he lashed out at Congress leader Digvijay Singh for making “irresponsible, baseless and false” statements about RSS links to terror acts in Ajmer in Rajasthan, Mecca Masjid at Hyderabad and Malegaon in Maharashtra.
Mr. Joshi said it was counter-productive to talk of majority or minority communities when discussing terror. He charged the Congress with playing vote-bank politics on the issue and “in the days to come, effort will be made to embroil patriotic forces in this manner.”
The Congress charge has come amid arrests for the murder of Sunil Joshi, an RSS worker and a prime accused in the Malegaon blast case. The police theory is that Sunil Joshi was done to death as he knew too much and if arrested could have unravelled inconvenient links to the higher echelons of the organisation. Several other RSS pracharaks and workers have been arrested for the Ajmer dargah blasts, including Devinder Gupta and Lokesh Sharma, while top RSS man Indresh Kumar was alleged to have organised a meeting where the terror plot was hatched.
Mr. Joshi said that earlier too the organisation had clarified that the RSS was not involved in terrorism and it did not believe in violence or terror tactics. If anyone was found to be involved, the full force of law must be used and the person found guilty must be punished. However, he objected to the Congress linking the RSS with terrorism even as investigations into the terrorist acts at the Ajmer dargah, Malegaon and Mecca Masjid were still on and the accused were awaiting trial.(THE HINDU)
